BC2 Clan Server Empty BC2 Clan Server

Post by Antares Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:14 pm

We still have some time to debate this, but will enough of us be getting this game to justify starting up a clan server? I think we'll need at least 5 of us who will be consistently playing if we want to establish consistent traffic. I for one will be getting the game unless there are major issues, which I don't anticipate.

If we want to get a server going, then we'll need to take up donations. We don't need any right now, but being that this is a team based game, we'll need to nearly double the amount of player slots. For instance, a 32 player server would cost $48 a month. Thats 16 per team. Its $1.50 per player slot. So as you can see, running a server on a monthly basis can add up over the months. This is one problem with this being a team based game. FFA play is much cheaper.

    Any thoughts on this?

I will see what I can do a bit closer to the game. I am a little strapped for cash at the moment due to xmas then going on holidays and taking the girlfriend away. As well as buying a car and having to do a bit of work to that...

I doubt I'll be pre-ordering it, though may end up at Best Buy in case they're offering that service. Doubtful I'll play the beta unless they provide keys without having to pre-order. Regardless, I'll be getting the game. I'll probably need to start looking into how to configure the server files from older versions of the game. Not sure how similar they are to COD games.

Update: We can now pre-order a BC2 server from Gameservers.com. However it will need to paid for now. We do have the funds. Also, right now there is a max of 32 players slots. I've asked them if there are more slots available and they said that at this time no, but that may change once the game is released. I find it hard to believe this game would be restricted to 32 player slots. 16 per team isn't bad though.

    16 per team is heaps...

I say we go for a 32 player one. Its a good number for teams and i reckon we will enjoy it at that.

16 might be best, as its only 12 v 12 on consoles and on the huge maps in this game, getting spawn rape isn't bad unless your team just sucks ass.

Lol. Yeah well our team won't suck arse...

If we are successfull with this we may need to get a slightly bigger Vent server to divide into two channels (Team A and Team B)

Expanding the slots on the vent server is practically free. Its like a $1-$2 or so. 32 slot server would probably be good, 36 would probably be ideal if the maps are as big as I'm told. Gotta figure there will always be 1-2 players idle.

Are we going to make the Vent public with this? If so then we may need 32 but if not and keep it as the Clan and friends one only then we won't need anywhere near 32...

I would say for now we shouldn't make the Vent public. I'm not even sure how we would advertize it because I'm not sure how to stream messaging in that server config. Thats a whole different game from COD and I haven't a clue as to how to mess with those config files. Its something I can learn, but I believe there isn't going to be a lot of flexibility on what you can do with the game. Not as flexible as COD.

I do agree with this... I am not too sure of how flexible it will be either... We just might have to keep it to a Clan and friends basis to begin with and the players we see there consistently we can invite in.

Just keep it private, clan members or friends of clan members you can trust imo.

If people on the server ask if you have a vent, tell them you keep it clan/friends only, if they don't whine about it, then probably give it to them a few days later as thats shows they are pretty much mature, if they cry, then lol.

I pre ordered the game a couple of days ago. Has anyone herd from ant? Are we going to have a server on launch day? Do I donate to the gameserver account or will the host be different?

Post by Antares Sat Feb 27, 2010 12:15 am

I just pre-ordered the server for 32 slots. This should activate on Tuesday. Here are a few questions to consider -
What do we want to name the server? Do you want to include our clan tag, or just a name like, Westcoast FragShack. Or something like, The FragShack. Or, |WCFS|FragShack, or |WCFS|The FragShack

Whose going to be online playing this game on Tuesday?

How long do we want the maps to last? Do you like long map times in this type of game. Or something more like, 15, 20 minutes per map?

Server Funds - We had enough funds left for one month for the server. I'll kick in some funds now to cover the cost of the Vent server this month. Our next payment for the server will be due April 2nd. We can discuss how we want to approach donations. Thank you Moon for offering.

Server IP - This is the designated server IP - 8.6.3.76:19567

Ill chip in soon aswell, as for game times i think 15 mins to start just to see how the game plays, i think |WCFS|fragshack, would be okay.

Since PC gaming is a flop for me atm...........

Goodluck with the server guys :O, btw WestCoastFragShack sounds sexy to me, least people won't have to ask what WCFS stands for (if they still do.....kill them, seriously, kill them as they do not deserve to live)

As for time of matches, I finally learn how the time was during the beta, it was how many lives before a match ended.

Example: Rush on that snow map, a number under the attacker which I'll use 90, which means your team has 90 lives to plant and destroy site A and B before you lose the match, once you plant and destroy both, the number resets, defenders get push back to their next line of defense, and you start over. Correct me someone if I'm wrong Razz.

It works on a tickets system (Or spawns) There is basically a set number that your team uses to spawn and take the checkpoint. I say 80 is a good number to start with. I also agree with Shek on the name. "WestCoastFragShack" has a ring to it. Looks awesome too.

I will chip in sometimes this week. Pity the server cost is going to be more. I should be online on release date too, Though that depends on work too...
